Munich / Barcelona, August, 2025 – KONUX, the AI company transforming railway operations and infrastructure management, is proud to announce the start of a new project with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), one of Spain’s most innovative and forward-looking rail operators.

FGC operates key commuter and regional rail services in Catalonia, and is known for its high service standards and reliability. The company is now taking steps to further enhance the efficiency of its infrastructure maintenance through smart, condition-based approaches.

As part of this project, KONUX is monitoring switches on the highest-density line in FGC’s network, which handles hundreds of trains per day. These assets were selected due to their past degradation history, making them high-priority assets for more accurate condition tracking. The goal of the project is to provide high-resolution, data-driven insights into the health and performance of these switches, allowing FGC to anticipate deterioration and plan maintenance with greater precision.

FGC’s aim is to explore how predictive condition monitoring can help prevent unplanned outages and disruption while enabling more structured and cost-effective maintenance planning. They are leveraging KONUX Switch’s core functionalities – Track Bed Heath and Maintenance Quality Check (MQC), and relative acceleration analysis – to evaluate the condition of its assets and the impact of maintenance activities over time. We aim to help infrastructure managers identify when maintenance is needed and how effective interventions have been, which supports smarter planning and budget allocation.

In addition, FGC intends to integrate KONUX’s insights into their existing monitoring platform for point machines, creating a more complete and connected view of switch performance across different systems. This will support a holistic monitoring strategy and empower technical teams to take preventive action before failures occur, supporting predictive maintenance planning and operational reliability.

This first deployment marks a foundational step in what both partners hope will become a long-term collaboration. If successful, the project could lead to a wider rollout across FGC’s network, which forms part of the second-largest railway infrastructure in Spain.

By working together on this high-traffic line, KONUX and FGC are building a data-based approach to asset management, one that focuses on preventing failures, optimising resources, and improving overall operational resilience.
